The Opportunity

WSP Canada has an exciting opportunity to join the Future Ready® Team as a Future Ready® Intern for 8-12 months at our Ottawa office. Future Ready® is WSP's global resilience and innovation program, enabling, challenging, and inspiring our people to provide advice and deliver projects that are ready for the future, as well as today.

As the Future Ready® Intern, you will support the Future Ready® team in executing initiatives as required to deliver the Future Ready® program. This may include but not limited to preparing case studies, proposal content, trend research and analysis, and support in the deliver of staff and client presentations. The Future Ready® program is organized around three pillars:
  • See the future more clearly.
  • Develop complete solutions for the long-term.
  • Challenge the status quo.

A day in the life
  • Conduct research and analysis on topics related to changes in society, resources, climate, technology
  • Assist with preparing materials for internal and external facing uses, including but not limited to proposals, reports, publications, workshops and presentations.
  • Liaise with Future Ready® Team.
  • Coordinate with project managers and technical leads, under guidance, to collect information for case studies.
  • Promote and champion the Future Ready® program with internal stakeholders.
  • Support collaboration with staff from all business sectors in WSP's service offerings to identify opportunities for engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Help develop and/or improve internal resources such as practical guides, case studies, templates and project delivery materials.
  • Other duties as assigned/required that relate to engaging clients, such as researching and analyzing business and market-based insight

What you'll bring to WSP
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in a related field (including but not limited to change management, engineering, urban planning, political science, sustainability and climate change, management, etc.).
  • Strong analytical, research and writing skills are required.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work on diverse and evolving topics are essential.
  • Strong creative and problem-solving skills to develop innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrate interest of societal, technological, and market trends, as well as sustainability and resilience.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and others), and other communications-related software programs.
  • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills; attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset and proven ability to work in a team environment with success.

Nice to have
  • Past co-op or summer work term experience in a relevant field. Experience in consulting services, project delivery, sustainability and resilience, and customer service would be an asset.
  • Experience in facilitating engagement/university events.
  • Experience with publications (i.e. writing and reporting clubs at university, scientific research, etc.)
  • Bilingual (English and French).

Compensation
BC, AB, SK, NWT & NU: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
MB & ON: $18.50 - $28.00 per hour
Atlantic Provinces & QC: $17.50 - $28.00 per hour
