The Opportunity
Shape Something Different - Southwestern Ontario - 2026 Field Season with WSP
Join our archaeology team as an Archaeology Field Technician I based out of our Burlington, Mississauga, Whitby, London, Ottawa and Thunder Bay offices. You will be involved in various stages of archaeological fieldwork from Stage 2 surveys to Stage 4 excavations in Ontario. Note that this is a seasonal position for the 2026 field season, starting in Spring 2026 (as soon as weather allows).
Please be advised that LiUNA has been certified by the Labour Relations Board to bargain on behalf of persons in the above-noted position. The parties have entered into a collective bargaining agreement and any candidate who is hired into the noted role will be kept informed of any changes to the terms and conditions of their employment because of that process.

Your Impact
As an Archaeological Field Technician I on the WSP team you will:
- Complete archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of an experienced Field Supervisor, including Stage 2 surveys (field walking and test pitting); Stage 3 site-specific assessments; and Stage 4 mitigations.
- Support Field Supervisors and provide assistance where needed.
- Participate in a team environment providing support to other field technicians and assisting with field activities as required.
- Maintain a high standard of ethical and professional behavior and demonstrate a "Safety First" focus.
- Work outdoors in a wide variety of weather and ground conditions.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- Ability to work daily at field site locations and enjoy fieldwork in a team environment.
- Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding tasks (e.g., hand shoveling, troweling, screening soil), work outdoors for long days in rough terrain and harsh elements, and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to share information and concerns with Field Supervisors.
- Ability to work well as part of a team or independently when required.
- Ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects (hotel stays), as required.
- A valid Ontario driver's license and clean driver's abstract; reliable transportation to and from designated project sites or office meet spots.
- Knowledge of archaeological artifacts is considered an asset.
- Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field considered an asset.
- One (1) field season of archaeological experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and test unit excavation, considered an asset.
