The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking Operations Support/Experienced Process Engineer to join our Water/Wastewater Process Engineering Group, based out of the Port Hope Harbour Construction Office. Reporting to the Project Manager for the Port Hope Harbour Water Treatment Plant project, and the Team Lead, this position will be responsible for periodically supervising the operation of the Port Hope Harbour water treatment plant, reporting on operations, and completing Water/Wastewater Process Engineering tasks for other projects and clients as required and as time allows.

The site is located in Port Hope, Ontario and the successful candidate will be expected to be located in or in close proximity to Port Hope, Ontario, and work either remotely or out of the Port Hope office. The successful candidate will be expected to travel to the Port Hope Harbour site and work from the project office up to five (5) days per week, during busy periods for the project. Relocation expenses may be eligible for reimbursement within reason, to be negotiated during hiring discussions.

A day in the life:
  • Observe, record and oversee operations of the Port Hope Harbour water treatment plant. This could include collecting samples, observing the operation of the treatment system, attending tailgate/toolbox meetings etc.
  • Complete weekly operations reports for the system, collating and summarizing sampling results, discharge volumes, and operational items such as routine maintenance and calibrations;
  • Attend initial site safety training, daily safety meetings, and adhere to the strict safety requirements of the site;
  • Communicate with the WSP Construction/Remediation Team regarding the state of the water treatment plant, planning for water treatment, etc.
  • Work with Senior leaders and SMEs on upgrades or modifications to the treatment plant, as required;
  • Complete water/wastewater process engineering tasks for the broader team, as required and as time allows;
  • Over time, manage projects outside of the Port Hope Harbour project, and work with other Senior Leaders and Project Managers to complete engineering tasks, site visits, etc.

We'd love to hear from you if you have...
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant Engineering field;
  • P.Eng or eligibility to qualify in the province of Ontario is considered an asset;
  • More than three (3) years relevant experience;
  • Demonstrated experience with the design of industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience in the operation of water and wastewater treatment systems, including sampling techniques, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Awareness of safety regulations and adapts a safety-oriented behavior;
  • Demonstrated experience in consulting, design and engineering projects of a similar nature and magnitude;
  • Able to make technical decisions independently based on the input of Senior mentors and other engineers;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Valid driver's license.
