This is a Strategic Leadership Role in Real Estate Finance
The Managing Director, Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) and Oversight, is a senior executive accountable for the risk oversight of the organization's real estate lending portfolio and for leading Loan Review across all Consumer products and Business Banking, utilizing a risk-based approach to file selection utilizing advanced statistical analytics. The Managing Director ensures quality oversight of the process, outcomes, and oversees action plans from the 1st and 2nd lines of defense to ensure effective mitigating actions.
The incumbent will combining deep expertise in real estate finance with strong governance skills, as this role ensures that lending activities align with the institution's risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and business objectives. The Managing Director will provide effective challenges to the RESL strategy, champion best practices in credit and risk management, understand the business's growth plan, and ensure resilience through the credit cycle. Additionally, the role involves providing regular updates to the bank's senior executives on the Canadian Real Estate market and supporting regular updates to the Enterprise's Risk Management Committee and the Board.

Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Provide effective challenge to the real estate secured lending strategy, balancing growth ambitions with prudent risk management.
- Lead annual business planning and portfolio optimization initiatives for RESL.
- Drive the execution and improvement of loan reviews to effectively identify higher-risk files, ensuring a comprehensive checklist to maintain excellence in underwriting.
- Oversee all aspects of the Retail real estate secured lending portfolio.
- Monitor portfolio performance, credit quality, concentration risks, and exposure limits.
- Implement robust controls and analytics for early detection of portfolio challenges.
- Establish and enforce credit risk policies for RESL, maintain a current understanding of regulatory changes, industry best practices, and evolving market risks.
- Champion the adoption of advanced risk analytics, stress testing, and scenario analysis tools.
- Develop remediation plans for identified risks, working closely with Compliance, Audit, and Legal teams.
- Represent the organization at industry forums, conferences, and with key external stakeholders.
- Lead origination efforts for complex and high-value lending opportunities.
- Oversee structuring of lending agreements, ensuring optimal risk-return profiles.
- Drive continuous improvement of RESL operations, leveraging technology, data, and process automation.
- Ensure lending activities are executed efficiently, with strong controls over documentation, underwriting, and servicing.
- Set performance targets and key metrics for the RESL team, fostering accountability and excellence.
- Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing team of lending professionals, risk managers, analysts, and support staff.
- Mentor emerging leaders and foster a culture of collaboration, integrity, and innovation.
- Monitor industry trends, technological advancements, and new business models relevant to real estate finance.
- Drive adoption of digital platforms, data analytics, and AI to enhance decision-making and customer experience.
- Encourage a culture of innovation, piloting new products, services, and partnerships.
- Extensive experience (typically 15+ years) in real estate lending, secured finance, or related fields, with significant leadership responsibilities.
- Advanced degree in business, finance, real estate, or a related discipline; professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM, CCIM) are an asset.
- Demonstrated expertise in credit risk management, portfolio oversight, regulatory compliance, and business development.
- Proven success in managing large, diverse teams and leading organizational change.
