The Opportunity:

Reporting to a Manager in the Transportation Planning and Science Department, this position will be responsible for leading the consultation component of major transportation planning and engineering projects that involve public consultation, such as transportation master plans, active transportation master plans, Class Environmental Assessments, and other transportation planning and engineering assignments for public and private sector clients across Ontario. This position will be critical to supporting Project Management teams and in leading all stakeholder engagement strategies. The candidate will also have the opportunity to mentor and guide junior staff in consultation activities, and support junior staff skill development.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Developing and implementing communication and stakeholder engagement strategies for transportation planning and design projects
  • Overseeing and facilitating stakeholder meetings, public events, community liaison committees, community pop-ups, and site tours as required.
  • Coordinating and liaising with stakeholders, scheduling and attending meetings and workshops, and preparing presentations.
  • Enhancing relationships with partners, stakeholders, and the public by providing project information, coordinating responses to inquiries, and contributing to the implementation of communications plans.
  • Engaging with community groups and key stakeholders by clearly communicating updates on construction, technical details, and work plans.
  • Preparing consultation strategies and document consultation summaries after events.
  • Liaising with communications specialists, engineers, and planners to prepare deliverables and respond to project enquiries.
  • Preparing work plans and costing for projects.

What you'll bring to WSP:
  • University degree in Planning, Engineering, Environmental Studies, or Communications, Public Policy, Geography, or a similar degree.
  • At least 2 years (5-7 preferred) of progressive related engagement experience in a municipal or consulting environment;
  • Eligibility or Full Member in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute, the Canadian Institute of Planners, or Professional Engineers Ontario and/or International Association for Public Participation (IAP2 or CP3)
  • Excellent written, oral communication and time management skills;
  • Familiar with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Customer Service Standard and Guide requirements;
  • Experience using web based consultation and engagement platforms and creating AODA compliant web based materials;
  • Demonstrated public consultation experience facilitating meetings in-person and virtually;
  • Willingness to guide, direct, and mentor junior and intermediate staff;
  • Highly motivated, organized, flexible, enthusiastic team player committed to upholding our reputation for delivering high quality service;
  • Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team on complex transportation and infrastructure projects is an asset;
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, query, analyze, and effectively communicate information; and
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License is an asset.
