Job Description
WSP is currently seeking a Hydraulic Modeller to join our Land Development and Municipal Engineering Team, located at our Kingston office. Reporting to a Senior Technical Expert, this position will be responsible for the execution of a variety of storm, water and wastewater hydraulic modelling tasks, such as stormwater flooding reviews, servicing/feasibility studies, technical analysis and design support of various project sizes. The opportunity will have a focus on local projects within Kingston and surrounding areas.

Their day begins with the intricate task of developing and calibrating models for wastewater collection and water distribution systems, ensuring that these critical systems function efficiently. They delve into technical analysis and design studies, laying the groundwork for robust infrastructure solutions. Report preparation is a key aspect of their job, documenting their findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
The modeller also engages in the production of maps using GIS and modelling software, which are essential for reporting and presentations. They manage vast amounts of asset data, maintaining the integrity and accessibility of large computer models. Establishing and refining hydraulic modelling and mapping standards is crucial for consistency and quality throughout project delivery.
Collaboration is at the heart of their work; they join forces with a multi-disciplinary team to conduct servicing and feasibility studies, contributing their expertise to a collective goal. They support the design of land development and municipal servicing projects, working closely with intermediate staff to ensure alignment with project objectives.
Active participation in the design process is vital, as they guide the design team with their hydraulic modelling analysis. Liaising with municipal, utility, and approval agencies, they ensure that all projects meet the necessary regulatory standards. Their proven experience in hydraulic modelling, from conceptual to detailed analysis, is applied across various stages of project development. Continuous learning through training is essential, as it allows them to stay current with the latest industry developments and techniques.
In addition to these responsibilities, a hydraulic modeller is prepared to take on other duties as required, showcasing their versatility and commitment to the field. Their contributions are essential to the successful delivery of public and private sector projects, impacting communities by enhancing the efficiency and safety of water infrastructure. As part of a team the modeller will also follow Quality Control (QC) or Quality Assurance (QA) department processes and use sound engineering judgements on projects to complete work and support project deliverables.

What you'll bring to WSP...
- 2 or more years of hydraulic modelling experience for Public and Private Sector projects in Ontario;
- Graduate of a Civil Engineering or equivalent program;
- An interest in the hydraulic modelling of sewer and watermains to solve real-life issues dealing with flooding, system pressures, and water quality;
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; and
- Knowledge and application of AWWA and Ontario Environmental standards and guidelines related to hydraulic modelling work;
- Experience with sewer and watermain design and model development/calibration using modelling software;
- Demonstrated modelling software proficiency with Aquanuity, InfoWorks ICM, InfoWater, InfoSWMM, Water/SewerGEMS and/or PCSWMM would be considered an asset including experience in steady-state and extended (dynamic) modelling;
- Familiarity using various modelling software packages (Bentley, Innovyze, etc...) with a demonstrated ability to transfer skills between software;
- Interest in continuous professional improvement to increase specialisation, with guidance, training and support each year;
- Ability to analyze watermain and sewer flows and pressures using software noted herein;
- Knowledge of Autodesk systems including AutoCAD Civil 3D for Storm and Sanitary Analysis;
- Knowledge of GIS systems including ArcGIS;
- Knowledge of data management software and use including Microsoft Access;
- Experience working with the various municipalities would be an asset;
- Knowledge and experience with transient hydraulic analysis using Hammer software, and/or Design would be considered an asset; and
- Have shown leadership skills by participating in extra-curricular events and volunteer work.
