WSP's Mining Environmental Approvals Team has an opportunity for an Environmental Permitting and Approvals Consultant - Mining.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical judgment, regulatory experience, and a practical understanding of how effects to the natural environment are addressed within mining approvals. This position offers the opportunity to work on challenging and meaningful projects while fostering professional development and career growth. Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of related experience in a consulting environment and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.

Your Impact
  • Support and lead environmental approvals for proposed and operating mines in Ontario, with a primary focus on approvals related to lands management, such as approvals related to dams, mineral waste facilities, forestry resources, aggregate resources, access roads and transmission lines
  • Prepare and review permit / approval applications, technical reports and environmental management / monitoring plans related to mine development and expansion, and closure planning
  • Work collaboratively with our in-house experts in hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, aquatic resources, engineering and others to provide technical and regulatory support to mining projects
  • Develop and contribute to comprehensive environmental documents that align with WSP's quality standards, while meeting client budgetary and scheduling requirements
  • Effectively liaise with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and Indigenous communities to facilitate the approvals process
  • Mentor less experienced professionals as required, encouraging growth and success within the team
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related discipline from a recognized university (post graduate degree considered an asset) such as environmental studies, physical geography / geology, engineering or biology with progressive experience, ideally including consulting to private sector clients
  • Five or more years' experience demonstrating a high degree of understanding of the interrelationships between development and environmental effects, with particular emphasis on northern climates
  • Experience with the Ontario and Federal regulatory regimes, and environmental assessment and approvals processes applicable to metal mining
  • Attention to detail and strong communicator (both written and verbal) in English
  • Current or future eligibility for P.Geo. or P.Eng. viewed favorably
  • Self-starter who enjoys working in a team environment having an ability to multi-task and work with multidisciplinary project teams to execute projects collaboratively
  • Role commensurate with experience

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $93,700 - $124,200
MB & ON: $85,500 - $117,800
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $84,700 - $112,400
