About the Role
We are seeking a talented Data Scientist with a strong focus on MLOps and Model Governance to join our Data Cognition Team at BMO Capital Markets. In this role, you will design, deploy, and maintain robust MLOps pipelines and enforce governance standards for machine learning models used in trading and banking. You will ensure compliance with internal and regulatory requirements while collaborating with stakeholders to deliver insights that improve performance and profitability.
Our Team
The Data Cognition Team (DCT) at BMO Capital Markets delivers a scalable, customizable, and sustainable suite of AI-enabled products for multiple business units. We leverage cutting-edge data and analytics technologies to solve complex business challenges and drive strategic transformation across Investment Banking, Global Markets, and other divisions.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and maintain end-to-end MLOps pipelines for seamless integration, deployment, and monitoring of models in production.
• Establish and enforce model governance frameworks, including validation, documentation, performance monitoring, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with AI/Data DevOps Engineers to ensure robust and secure model lifecycle management.
• Communicate complex technical concepts and governance requirements to non-technical stakeholders and senior management.
• Implement best practices for reproducible machine learning pipelines aligned with governance and operational requirements.
• Monitor, validate, and document models to ensure adherence to governance frameworks.
• Ensure all steps in the delivery and governance of data products are executed and documented according to standards.
Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related quantitative field (focus on finance, economics, or operations research preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in data science or machine learning, with expertise in MLOps and model governance.
• Strong programming skills and experience with cloud technologies.
• Familiarity with financial tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet, and Thomson Reuters is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to learn from data.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with technical and business stakeholders.
• Team-oriented, adaptable, and detail-focused with a results-driven mindset.
Nice to Have
• Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks for AI/ML models.
• Familiarity with advanced ML techniques and Generative AI.
• Knowledge of investment banking concepts and financial data formats.

Base Salary: $90,000-$120,000 CAD
(subject to negotiation and subject to the candidate meeting the specific skills, experience, education, and qualification requirements)

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
