About the Role
We are seeking an experienced AI Governance professional to join our Data Cognition Team at BMO Capital Markets. This role is at the forefront of shaping and enforcing Responsible AI practices within a highly regulated financial environment. You will lead initiatives to ensure compliance with evolving AI regulations, manage governance frameworks, and oversee risk mitigation strategies across the AI lifecycle. Success in this role requires a blend of technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and strong communication skills to influence decision-making at all levels.
Our Team
The Data Cognition Team (DCT) at BMO Capital Markets delivers a scalable, customizable, and sustainable suite of AI-enabled products for multiple business units. We leverage advanced data and analytics technologies to solve complex business challenges and drive strategic transformation across Investment Banking, Global Markets, and other divisions.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain AI governance frameworks aligned with organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Implement AI risk directives and monitor adherence across all AI initiatives.
• Respond promptly to regulatory inquiries and maintain audit-ready documentation.
• Manage AI libraries and catalog third-party AI solutions.
• Conduct quarterly controls reporting and prepare governance updates for senior leadership.
• Facilitate governance forums and stakeholder meetings to align on Responsible AI practices.
• Oversee AI intake processes, ensuring proper evaluation and documentation of new AI use cases.
• Identify, assess, and escalate AI-related risks and compliance issues.
• Support Governance, Risk, Compliance, and Ethics activities integrated with AI governance processes.
Qualifications
• Background in AI, Policy, or related field with a focus on AI governance and regulatory compliance.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in AI governance, Responsible AI, or risk management.
• Financial services or highly regulated industry experience preferred.
• Expertise in AI governance frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 23053, EU AI Act).
• Hands-on experience with AI model lifecycle management, including validation, monitoring, and retirement.
• Knowledge of emerging AI regulations and ability to translate requirements into operational practices.
• Strong communication skills for presenting to executives, boards, and regulatory bodies.
• Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive adoption of governance policies.
Nice to Have
• Familiarity with AI explainability techniques, model interpretability tools, and algorithmic transparency methods.
• Experience with AI audit methodologies and third-party vendor assessments.
• Knowledge of generative AI and large language models, including governance challenges.
• Certifications in AI ethics, risk management, or compliance frameworks.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
