The Capital Allocation & Management function leads the development of strategy, policy, and implementation to optimize financial resources, drive profitable growth, strengthen BMO's competitive position, and support disciplined, risk-adjusted returns - fully aligned with our client-centric priorities. The team oversees capital planning, investment governance, booking strategy, and portfolio optimization across Global Markets, Investment & Corporate Banking, and infrastructure groups.

The Associate, Capital Allocation & Management supports the analysis and execution of resource optimization, balance-sheet solutions, and capital structuring initiatives across Capital Markets. The role focuses on analyzing capital and balance-sheet usage, evaluating structural levers, and supporting solution development that improves capital efficiency, ROE, and balance-sheet scalability - within regulatory, liquidity, and funding constraints. The Associate works closely with senior CAM team members and partners across Treasury, Finance, Risk, and Front Office, contributing analytics and insights that support informed capital and structuring decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Resources & Profitability Analytics
  • Support the analysis of capital and liquidity usage, ROE/ROA, and balance-sheet intensity across businesses, portfolios, and clients
  • Assist in building and maintaining capital attribution, benchmarking, and performance dashboards
  • Conduct peer and trend analysis to identify capital efficiency and optimization opportunities

Capital Planning & Governance Support
  • Contribute to capital planning, forecasting, and stress analysis processes
  • Support governance materials, booking strategy, investment cases, and internal reviews by preparing clear, well-structured analysis and exhibits
  • Assist in evaluating and documenting the capital and liquidity impact of new initiatives, products, or structural changes

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work with Finance, Risk, Treasury, and business stakeholders to gather data, validate assumptions, and align analysis
  • Translate quantitative outputs into concise insights for senior team members and decision forums
  • Support ad-hoc requests related to capital metrics, regulatory constraints, and business performance

Tools, Data & Process Improvement
  • Help maintain and enhance analytical tools, models, and data pipelines used by the CAM team
  • Automate recurring analysis and reporting where possible to improve efficiency and consistency
  • Contribute to documentation of methodologies, assumptions, and data sources

Education:
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Progress toward CFA or similar designation is an asset

Experience:
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in capital markets, treasury, risk management, finance, or analytics
  • Exposure to capital, balance-sheet, liquidity, or profitability analysis is preferred

Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with Python, SQL, Power BI, or similar tools is an asset
  • Ability to structure analysis and communicate findings clearly
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple workstreams
  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn complex capital and regulatory concepts

Development & Progression:

This role offers exposure to enterprise-level capital decision-making and provides a strong foundation for progression into Senior Associate or VP roles within Capital Allocation, Treasury, Strategy, or related functions.

Please note the base salary for this role is $120,000 CAD.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
