The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a System Assurance (SA)/RAMS (Reliability Availability Maintainability Safety) Engineer to join our Rail Systems Engineering team. Reporting to the Director, this position will be responsible to undertake railway (commuter rail, light rail and subway) related engineering and operational assessment and analysis to provide assurance that all the systems under review are acceptably safe and reliable/available for rail operational service.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Perform SA/RAMS analysis, including, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Sub system Hazards Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, and Operations and Support Hazard Analysis;
  • Provide support for SA/RAMS Planning, including, Safety Management system development, Project Safety / RAMS plan development, Operational Safety / RAMS plan development, Safety Management System implementation;
  • Conduct Assurance Audits and Assessments for, Independent Competent Person, Independent Safety Assessment, Independent Verification and Validation, and Design Verification;
  • Undertaking and checking of HAZOP and HAZID studies;
  • Undertaking and assessment of Qualitative and Quantitative risk assessment;
  • Implementation and checking of detailed analysis including, FMECA, FTA / ETA, Root Cause Analysis, Reliability / Availability modelling;
  • Support RAM implementation planning activities; including:
    • Development and review of reliability proof documentation, and reliability assurance documentation;
    • Development and review of maintainability demonstration planning and reports;
    • Development of RCM planning and implementation.
  • Responsible for Operational Safety Analysis and operational compliance;
    • Assessment of operational safety across technical and operational process aspects;
    • Development and review of operational plans and procedures for safety operations;
  • Support Incident Management Planning and Investigation, as well as, Emergency and Crisis management process development and review;
  • Interface within the systems engineering disciplines (Track, Traction Power, Signal/Train Control, Communications, Integrated Control Systems, Rolling Stock, etc.);
  • Interface with Structure/Station/Facilities/Tunnel in the railway environment;

What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Bachelor's degree or advanced education in a relevant discipline from an accredited university;
  • Registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with the Professional Engineers of Ontario or P.Eng. License;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading SA/RAMS for a large organization, in the rail industry;
  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge across all rail engineering aspects and operations with specialist in at least one key area such as: Train Control/Signalling, Traction Power, Rolling Stock, Station Equipment, Communications, Track Infrastructure, and Structures;
  • Demonstrated success in a team environment, and leading a team;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
