The Process and Mine Infrastructure Design (PMID) Group is currently recruiting for a Structural Engineering Co-op student (prefer 12 to 16 months term) to be part of our team in Mississauga, Ontario location. PMID group is a multi-disciplined consulting and engineering design group for the mining and industrial projects.

It is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Structural engineering student willing to take on new challenges. While working with senior structural engineers, project managers, other discipline engineers and designers, you will actively contribute to all aspects of the structural design and development from project concept to final construction reviews. You will apply your structural engineering knowledge on project work from conceptual design through completion of design and construction.


The successful candidate will:
  • Assist engineers and designers in the structural design of building and other structure; including preparation of structural engineering layouts, calculation and analysis;
  • Prepare material quantity take-offs, cost estimates and other technical tasks under the directions and supervisions of senior engineers;
  • Work on projects from conceptual level studies to detailed engineering, and technical support during construction;
  • Coordinate with other engineers and disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects;
  • Visit construction sites or existing facilities to assist project engineers and project managers with construction support activities including inspections, gather site measurements, document, and meeting with contractor/client; and
  • Support the preparation of presentations, reports, other technical documents.


The successful candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:
  • Knowledge in application of Canadian Codes and Standards, steel and concrete design;
  • Ability to travel, including projects require 2~4 wks. field rotations in remote locations;
  • Valid Ontario driver's license;
  • Microsoft Office and general computer usage;
  • Experience with structural design software Risa-3D or SAP, would be an asset;
  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills, strong time management skills;
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and collaboratively; and
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a team-based engineering environment.
