We are looking for a Senior Validation and Verification Manager to lead a large team responsible for the completion of a set of engineering tasks within the committed cost, schedule, performance and quality. The related tasks may cover part or all the range of IVVQ activities regarding customer needs, mission, function and life cycle. Ensuring that the work performed by the IVVQ team meets the overall standards of Thales Canada Transportation Solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directs and manages the IVVQ functional work area
- Identifies the required skills, allocates roles and responsibilities to the various individual contributors and leads these contributors as a team
- Schedules, coordinates and monitors the implementation of tasks
- Manages, motivates, trains and appraises employees' performance and acts as a mentor to assigned staff
- Monitors workload of the functional staff to ensure schedules are being adhered to while reviewing and approving work assigned in the area of control, resolving any technical or human resource problems
- Assists the Director of IVVQ in strategic and long term business planning, cost estimates and is responsible for labour forecasting and adherence to capital and expense budgets
- Prepares the group internal/external training plan
- Develops department expertise in rail signaling, integration, verification, validation and qualification
- Conducts (Chairs: as required) meetings with other groups and/or customers on requirements or processes, ensuring product and work integrity are maintained
- Ensures that product artefacts can be reused across projects
- Responsible for staff planning and for maintaining the skill base, including hiring and termination
- Maintains effective interface between both senior management and staff, facilitating the continued flow of communications between all levels
- Keeps middle and senior management fully informed on group activities
- Communicates the company strategy to the group
- Monitors the group performanceKPIs and performs corrective actions when required
- Supports capitalization activities for the department as well as lessons learned
- Provides support to the IVVQ Managers in their daily activities
- Ensures that the overall IVVQ strategy is defined and maintained
- Ensures that the IVVQ team adheres to the company standards
- Ensures proper deployment of the IVVQ tools
- Ensures the IVVQ processes are properly defined, deployed and followed by the team
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, System Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
- Over 8 years of supervisory experience
- More than 10 years of relevant working experience
- Experience managing over 40 direct reports
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Working knowledge of modern IVVQ practices, methods and tools (including but not limited to international railway standards)
- Understanding and managing the risks
- Experience in managing medium to large IVVQ teams
- Deep understanding of the project management principles (ideally achieved through managing projects for multiple years)
- Practical experience in terms of creating and executing complex test plans and procedures
- Ability to manage projects within budget/schedule in a challenging environment
- Experience in working within a team using Agile Methodologies
- Expert knowledge of task planning, including estimation, performance tracking and reporting
- Practical experience in using typical programs which are part of Microsoft Office Suite
- Expert knowledge of requirements management and problems tracking tools (e.g. Jira, ClearQuest, Doors, etc.)
- Knowledgeable of SelTrac CBTC signaling systems
- Expert knowledge of the roles and activities of other departments that are related to IVVQ
- Knowledge of Engineering risk and decision making process
- Professional Engineer's Licence (P.Eng.) would be an asset
