The Opportunity

Innovate and Lead - Step into a senior role where your modelling, simulation, and rail systems expertise actively shapes the future of complex transit networks. From enhancing operational performance to informing large-scale infrastructure design, you'll collaborate with specialists across Canada and beyond to deliver transformative, data-driven solutions that keep people moving safely and efficiently.

Your Impact
  • Lead end-to-end modelling and simulation assignments across rail operations, traction power, tunnel ventilation, pedestrian movement, and traffic scenarios, using industry-standard tools.
  • Apply advanced modelling methods to evaluate network performance, validate system requirements, and optimize service planning.
  • Develop rail network and alignment concepts grounded in operational feasibility and system integration.
  • Guide and mentor junior modellers, strengthening technical capability within the Rail Systems Engineering team.
  • Drive continuous improvement by contributing to process design, automation tools, and visualization methods for simulation outputs.
  • Support proposals, pursuits, and multi-project delivery while maintaining technical excellence and quality assurance.
  • Build strong internal and external relationships to expand client trust and help position WSP as a leader in modelling and simulation.

The Skills That Set You Apart
  • An engineering degree is highly preferred, and 10+ years of experience in rail modelling, operational analysis, and systems engineering.
  • Deep hands-on expertise using OpenTrack, RailSys, RTC, and/or equivalent rail simulation platforms, plus experience with OpenPowerNet for traction power studies.
  • Strong understanding of rail operations, signaling principles, block design, and track layout fundamentals.
  • Advanced data handling skills with the ability to manipulate large datasets and automate workflows using Python or VBA.
  • Capability in timetable planning, service modeling, rolling stock and crew diagramming, and resource optimization.
  • Experience across diverse rail contexts including LRT, metro, commuter rail, tram, and mixed-traffic environments.
  • Familiarity with ETCS and CBTC technologies.
  • Exposure to macroscopic modelling tools (e.g., Viriato, RailPlan, Attune) and complementary modelling platforms (MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW) is an asset.
