Our Indirect Tax team offers a full range of planning and compliance advice with respect to GST/HST, QST, provincial sales taxes (PST), property transfer taxes, excise taxes, fuel and carbon taxes, and other indirect taxes levied by the provincial and federal governments in Canada. We help our clients ensure that they are meeting their obligations in all relevant jurisdictions and that they are making the most of any tax planning and refund opportunities. We also assist our clients in the context of indirect tax audits and appeals. In this role you will work closely with KPMG professionals and clients on Indirect Tax matters in order to research and prepare advice for our clients and support them in their dealings with the taxing authorities.
What you will do
The expected base salary range for this position is $113,500 to $163,500 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant's base salary within this range is based on the individual's location, skills & competencies, and unique qualifications. In this role you will work closely with KPMG professionals and clients on Indirect Tax matters in order to research and prepare advice for our clients and support them in their dealings with the taxing authorities.
What you will do
- Working directly with our Indirect Tax Partner and senior staff to assist clients of all sizes from small private companies to large public companies
- Lead and manage indirect tax compliance engagements for financial services clients, including GST/HST, QST, and other applicable indirect taxes.
- Review and sign off on compliance deliverables, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timeliness ahead of regulatory deadlines.
- Provide hands - on leadership during peak periods, supporting both execution and review as required.
- Manage, coach, and develop Managers, Senior Staff, Technicians, and Specialists within the engagement team.
- Act as a key escalation point for complex compliance issues and support resolution in collaboration with Partners and other Indirect Tax groups.
- Contribute to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of internal compliance tools and processes, working with internal technology and analytics teams.
- Support practice growth through onboarding new clients, improving operational efficiency, and contributing to broader FS Compliance initiatives.
- 5-7 years of relevant work experience.
- Extensive experience in indirect tax compliance, ideally within financial services or a large public accounting / professional services environment.
- CPA designation preferred but not required; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Strong understanding of indirect tax compliance processes, review standards, and delivery risk management.
- Proven ability to lead teams while remaining operationally engaged when required.
- Experience working in or alongside technology - enabled compliance environments is an asset.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline - driven, high - volume environment.
