Senior Manager - Customer Analytics, Retail Risk

This is a Hybrid (3-4 days in Office, subject to future changes), Toronto based role, mandated to provide subject matter expertise through advanced customer, credit and fraud analytics, delivering meaningful insights and help drive business results in alignment with overall group goals. Specifically, we are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking professional to lead the analytical engine that powers fraud prevention, credit strategy, and lifecycle decisioning across our retail portfolios. This role is pivotal in driving innovation, operational excellence, and data-driven decision-making across our credit risk and customer segmentation programs.
  • Leads the design and optimization of First Party Fraud (FPF) strategies across all retail credit portfolios, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and 2LOD oversight.
  • Partners with product credit teams to embed fraud mitigation practices throughout the customer lifecycle while maintaining a seamless client experience.
  • Supports policy enhancements by providing data driven recommendations to reduce first party fraud risk exposure and improve risk return outcomes.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable strategies for fraud prevention and credit decisioning.
  • Conduct deep dive analytics using SQL and Python to identify emerging fraud patterns, behavioral anomalies, and high risk cohorts.
  • Build scenario analyses, loss forecasting models, and stress tests using Python based statistical and modeling libraries.
  • Manage daily execution and reporting of the account management & collections strategies, ensuring timely insights and operational rigor.
  • Design and implement advanced ML/AI solutions to enhance customer segmentation, portfolio tracking, and automation. Champion use-cases such as Early Warning Systems (EWS), Agentic AI, and predictive modeling.
  • Provide ongoing portfolio reporting to senior executives, including segmentation forecasting and data archiving for automated downstream applications.
  • Deliver deep behavioral insights to inform credit lifecycle strategies-spanning acquisition, account management, and collections-with a focus on revenue growth and risk mitigation.
  • Build innovative tools to track micro-segment migrations and improve short- to medium-term credit loss predictions beyond traditional provisioning methods
  • Lead strategic risk projects aimed at modernizing legacy data systems to support customer-centric evaluation and cross-sell strategies powered by AI/ML. Champion use-cases such as Early Warning Systems (EWS), Agentic AI, and predictive modeling.
  • Provides expertise in the design, development, management, and implementation of assigned strategic initiatives from business case development through to execution.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to assigned business/group; Influences and negotiates to achieve business objectives.
  • Supports the execution/delivery of accurate and efficient reporting solutions for risk, regulatory and management information to internal and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies.
  • Identifies customer trends and patterns to address identified business questions; Presents findings & recommendations in a simple, clear way to drive action.
  • Participates in implementation of strategic initiatives across BMO by partnering with various internal & external stakeholders as required.
  • Supports the planning and execution of the change management process including simulation, validation testing and reporting requirements to evaluate the effectiveness of the new or modified strategies.
  • Executes work to deliver timely, accurate, and efficient service for scheduled reporting production processes.
  • Independently produces & summarizes statistical findings, draws business conclusions, and presents actionable business recommendations (e.g. Customer insights and risk management strategies/tactics).
  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
  • Collaborates with internal & external stakeholders to provide business context in the design, develop and implementation of programs & solutions.
  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
  • Embraces broader work or expanded accountabilities that are assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice to have:
  • Pre-established knowledge of credit risk or fraud risk management principles.
  • Some knowledge of data mining software/language such as SAS/SQL/Python - Willingness to learn if needed.
  • Proven experience in credit risk analytics, ML/AI strategy, and customer segmentation
  • Strong understanding of financial services lifecycle and risk management frameworks
  • Expertise in data infrastructure transformation and predictive modeling
  • Passion for innovation and driving measurable impact through data
Salary :

$94,600.00 - $176,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
