MDA is currently seeking a Senior Engineer/Member Technical Staff for the Manufacturing department. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of Manufacturing Engineering, from initial design/&rdquo proof of principle&rdquo hardware, through to the MAI& T phase and to deliver hardware on cost to customer delivery dates.

Responsibilities
  • Candidate must have a wide range of experience in Space/Aerospace and Commercial DFM (Design Manufacture for Manufacture).
  • Ability to proactively manage outside suppliers to ensure on cost and on time delivery an well mitigate the impact of changes coming from the design team
  • Candidate must have extensive experience in accurately estimating part and assembly &ldquo should cost&rdquo (including the ability to estimate based on incomplete detail drawings or from layout drawings)
  • Evaluates manufacturing methods/processes based on proven experience and best practices for commercial and aerospace industry applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials conferring with equipment vendors
  • Improves company manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Planning &ldquo Back End of the Business&rdquo for projects (eg developing MAI& T)
  • Has the experience to manage/oversee
    • outside vendors (against cost and schedule)
    • Internally control (tools and processes) to execute and deliver final products (ownership of whole MAI& T)
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods and equipment testing finished- product and process capabilities establishing standards confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provides timely manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs reviewing production schedules estimating future requirements.
  • Provides manufacturing engineering information to the engineering/program organizations
  • Maintains product and process database by writing computer programs entering data.
  • Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
  • Act as point of contact for assistance in troubleshooting and resolving assembly and piece part level issues
  • Participate in product development meetings and make recommendations for product design changes to enhance manufacturing and assembly

Requirements
  • Must possess 20+ years of &ldquo hands on&rdquo experience, a combination of:
  • Direct machining experience (manual/NC machining)
  • Accurate quick machining/Estimating costs based in the aerospace
  • Knowledge of relevant machine shops within the GTA/Southern Ontario
  • GD& T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • CMM inspection experience (and experience with precision tolerances where needed)
  • Well-rounded understanding of materials, surface finishes and surface treatments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with a strong emphasis on Excel, knowledge of MRP systems
  • Excellent planning capabilities, organizational skills, ability to work under time constraints
  • Academic: Mechanical Technologist (minimum) Manufacturing Engineer (preferred)
  • Verbal, written communication skills are essential to this position.
