The Senior Director, Public Sector is a unique opportunity to pursue passions in both outstanding client service and community impact by building new relationships and sharing insights with public sector finance leaders. Business development, credit structuring, networking, due diligence, and negotiation are the foundational skills to developing your market-leading presence and insights. Professionalism and client service acumen are how we excel in advising CFOs / Directors of Finance at clients with up to $1B+ budgets. Senior Directors are highly effective at earning the trust of new clients and impacting our organizations with value-add recommendations.
Expertise in commercial credit and business development are essential to driving impact and structure deals in our clients' highly regulated sectors. A collaborative partnership approach will also be critical to bring the best of BMO including Treasury and Payments Solutions, Debt Capital Markets, Interest Rate Derivatives, Global Asset Management / Wealth Advisory, and many others.
Responsibilities day-to-day include:
- Creates, evolves, and executes business development plans that lead to new relationships & services
- Delivers market leading advice and insights to clients as the primary building block to strong relationships
- Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant industry trends, regulations, and policies for other teams across BMO
- Leads execution of new lending opportunities through detailed financial analysis, due diligence, loan structuring, negotiation, documentation, and deal closing/funding
- Coordinates end-to-end deal management from opportunity identification to credit approval to funding by working with various stakeholders including Credit, Operations, and other lines of business
- Monitors success of client requests and implementations across various products & teams
- Ensures a smooth client experience by navigating BMO systems, policies, and processes
- Provides mentorship and coaching to Portfolio Manager and Credit Analysts
- Drives overall business efficiency through identification, development, and adoption of strategic initiatives and digital ways of working
- Maintains internal control standards including adherence to audit, regulatory, and compliance policies
- Support broader portfolio or business accountabilities as may be needed to support our clients
Experience it will take to succeed: - Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience working in commercial banking in credit related roles with meaningful experience in sales and prospecting
- Demonstrated success in business development and new origination including ability to network in external markets
- Proven excellence in commercial banking client relationship management and demonstrated self-starter
- Deep technical proficiency in credit analysis, due diligence, loan structuring, compliance, and credit agreements
- Expertise in contract negotiations with both clients and legal counsel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including in complex RFP responses
- Experience with public sector financing considered an asset
- Post-secondary degree in related field of study or equivalent
- MBA and/or CFA considered an asset
