As a Senior Design Specialist, you will leverage your knowledge of Android environment, Android-based mobile technologies, and open source software. This will extend to encompass best practices, new products, security and design. You will support other initiatives, develop proof-of-concept apps and collaborate with external software vendors on developing full application solutions.

Taking lead role in our TELUS Innovation & Incubation Programs, you will provide thought leadership and act as a technology ambassador with the TELUS Patent Program team. Your will provide technical guidance and review proposed patent applications from team members across the organization.

Your efforts will support and enhance our entrepreneurial culture, creating an ongoing stream of innovative solutions for our customers so they have the best experiences.

Here's how
    •As an Android Subject Matter Expert, you will:
      •Follow changes in the Android environment •Develop small projects for Android •Understand possible disruptors in the industry and relate to the potential impact to TELUS, from Android environment as well as open source software in general •Present technical findings and business plans to a variety of audiences •Support TELUS teams' Android projects in various capacities
    •As a TELUS Patent Program Prime, you will:
      •Be an advocate to TELUS team members of TELUS' Patent Program, focusing on developing and protecting TELUS Intellectual Property •Represent the Patent Program in other TELUS programs such as the Incubation Program, workshops & hackathons, and various innovation-building initiatives •Promote the creation and development of intellectual property by leading presentations on patent development and filing procedures and guide TELUS intrapreneurs through the process


Qualifications:

    •Known to be passionate about technology and believe that contributing to the development and success of others will create a better future •Desire for continuous improvements, learning and exploring •2 to 3 years of Android development experience, Java and/or Kotlin •Respected for your business and financial acumen, data analytics expertise and communicating complex or technical concepts and predictive models in a clear and simple manner to a diverse group of individuals •Recognized as a collaborative partner and trusted advisor who builds strong relationships and providing values add •Regarded as an excellent communicator, negotiator and influencer, able to adapt and communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences including senior leaders •Known for successfully managing multiple, concurrent projects and delivering on agreed upon commitments as promised •Noted to have a high degree of curiosity, continuously learning new topics, concepts and technologies, and also looking beyond the surface level to understand the full picture and context of the problem or data •Recognized as a strategic thinker, innovator with a continuous improvement mindset, and skillful influencer and negotiator •Skilled at reading code and possessing intermediate fluency in Android development •Recipient of bachelor or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline

Great-to-haves
    •Experience as a Solution Architect or Technical Product/Project Manager •Experience with Agile development methodologies •Hackathon event management experience •Familiarity with patent filing procedures & patent searches •Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree
