Department Overview
The Business Banking Data Governance & Analytics (DG&A) group is responsible for stewardship of all data requirements for Business Banking, including the development and implementation of a data strategy in line with Enterprise standards & policies.

The group supports Business Banking product and sales teams in the areas of data analytics, performance measurement, business intelligence and reporting.

The group also develops and executes policies, practices and procedures that properly manage the business's data needs and adhere to data governance standards as set out by the Office of Chief Data Officer (OCDO)

Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Data Business Analysis II (Data in Projects), the incumbent is responsible for the holistic identification of Business Data, Analytics and Reporting Requirements integrated into several of the Business Bank's largest investment theme projects. They will work closely and take guidance from the Data Steward (Data in Projects), while facilitating Business and Technology stakeholders in understanding the impact of business processes on the data, both net-new and existing. The incumbent will also work together with project stakeholders to help drive several data activities, as defined by the BB Data in Projects Framework, including both EDGO Enterprise and traditional data activities within individual BB platforms and within the Akora Ecosystem. The Analyst will help enable comprehensive data delivery within the project, in a responsible way aligned to the BB Data Strategy.

Accountabilities Include:
  • Responsible for holistic identification of Business, Data and Technology stakeholders and elicitation of Business Data, Analytics and Reporting Requirements
  • Facilitate a breakdown of business data requirements including to identify reporting needs both for implementation in Operational Data Stores (ODS) as well as for Ingestion and Integration into the Akora Platform
  • Collaborate across Data Governance & Analytics Pillars to ensure appropriate development, business acceptance testing, rollout and transition to Day 2
  • Understand data structures being modified and created across the projects and conduct lineage / reverse-engineering to understanding impacts to existing DG&A Artefacts (i.e. Reporting, Analytics)
  • Collaborate with project team to verify business data test cases scenarios covers data quality meeting data requirements; create new test cases if required. High level verification of the quality data in lower environments.
  • Ensure decisions and solutions are aligned with the BB Data in Projects Framework and the larger BB Data Strategy
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation both across the entire data architecture, as well as within the project and the overall DIP Team
  • Facilitate and conduct activities required to create / define Agile User Stories
  • Facilitate and conduct process modelling, data flow and context diagraming activities
  • Conduct knowledge transfer with the project teams and with DG&A Teams
  • Support the project team in quantifying the benefits to the Business bank through leveraging data
  • Facilitate and document current data state and future data target states to ensure effects of data are understood and communicated across all project stakeholders
  • Work effectively with multiple teams across a broad spectrum of initiatives and functional domains, influencing and aligning others as needed;
  • Provide functional / business level communications to ensure messages to stakeholders and / or employees are consistent, appropriate and aligned to business strategies and executive management direction;
  • Develop new standards for Data documentation for use by projects, and communicate these to both DG&A, Business and Technology Stakeholders
  • Participate fully as a member of the Business Bank's Data Governance & Analytics team, support a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation and teamwork and ensure timely communication of issues;

  • Seasoned Business Analyst with proven ability to assess, facilitate and ensure deliver holistic data activities, on time and on budget, aligned to business needs
  • Experience leading data related initiatives with specific emphasis on data retention and disposition expertise considered an asset;
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to understand implications of key decisions on policies, down-stream processes, etc.;
  • Knowledge of Business Bank data and systems considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of platform and data warehouse design and principles is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Agile Best Practices, Principles, Values and Behaviors is an asset
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in Agile projects, Jira and confluence tools is an asset
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in creating / defining Agile User Stories is an asset
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in facilitating activities related to User Story Creation / Elaboration / Grooming is an asset
  • Knowledge of the Akora Platform and EDGO Data Management Capabilities is considered an asset
  • Experience in working on data integration projects or large scale, complex technology projects using formal project delivery methodology;
  • Hands-on experience working with SQL language to carry-on daily data profiling and data quality is considered an asset
  • Hand-on experience working with Microsoft tools like MS Visio and MS PowerPoint
