From controlled blasting in diverse environments to evaluating environmental impacts, your work will directly contribute to safer operations, better designs and smarter project execution across the country.
Your Impact
- Lead and deliver drilling, blasting, and blast vibration assessment projects from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
- Develop, optimize, and review blast designs-including drill patterns, charge sizing, and timing sequences-to enhance fragmentation and support project performance.
- Apply geotechnical and geological assessments to inform blasting strategies, wall control, and environmental risk mitigation.
- Implement, interpret and report on vibration, air overpressure, and flyrock monitoring programs for compliance and environmental protection.
- Prepare high-quality technical documentation: studies, reports, specifications, cost estimates, and client presentations.
- Mentor junior and intermediate professionals, sharing knowledge, guiding work, and fostering skill development.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Rock Mechanics, Mining and Environmental Management groups to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Engage with clients to present findings, respond to technical inquiries, and support long-term blasting programs through remote and on-site reviews.
- Advance WSP's profile by participating in industry conferences, technical work groups, and business development initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all municipal, provincial and federal regulations governing blasting operations and environmental protection.
- Bachelor's degree in Geological, Mining, or Civil Engineering with a blasting focus; Master's degree considered an asset.
- Active Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) membership.
- Proven experience as a blasting expert in mining, construction, or multi-environment blasting applications (open pit, underground, urban, marine, demolition).
- Advanced knowledge of blasting design, vibration monitoring, air and water overpressure assessment, and environmental impact evaluation.
- Certification in blasting operations (e.g., Blaster's License/Certificate).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience preparing detailed technical reports.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to Canadian project sites as required.
- Fluency in English; French is an asset, especially for Ontario-based clients.
