Responsibilities
• Provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patients, families, staff, physicians, volunteers, students, and visitors.
• Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting visitors with wayfinding, information requests, and general inquiries throughout the hospital.
• Conduct regular patrols of hospital buildings, heliport, parking areas, tunnels, and surrounding grounds to identify and address safety, security, and operational concerns.
• Monitor CCTV, access control systems, alarms, and other security technology to detect and respond to incidents in a timely manner.
• Respond to emergencies including Code White, Code Red, Code Silver, medical emergencies, fire alarms, suspicious activity, and other hospital emergency codes in accordance with established procedures.
• Assist with providing access control and monitoring for heliport as well as fulfilling duties as per SOPs during landing and takeoff.
• Control access to restricted areas and verify identification and authorization of staff, contractors, patients, and visitors.
• Investigate and document security incidents, accidents, injuries, thefts, property damage, and policy violations, preparing detailed and accurate reports.
• Provide customer service, crisis intervention, and de-escalation support for disruptive, aggressive, or emotionally distressed individuals using a compassionate trauma-informed and patient-centered approach.
• Assist clinical staff with maintaining a safe care environment while respecting the dignity, privacy, and rights of patients and families.
• Coordinate with hospital departments, Toronto Police Service, Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Services as required during incidents and emergencies.
• Monitor visitor screening processes and support the enforcement of hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Assist with patient watches, high-risk patient monitoring, and missing person investigations as required.
• Respond to requests for assistance involving workplace violence prevention, personal safety escorts, and security-related concerns.
• Maintain accurate records, occurrence reports, daily activity logs, and incident documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
• Provide security coverage for special events, VIP visits, research facilities, and other sensitive hospital operations.
• Support emergency preparedness initiatives, evacuation procedures, and disaster response activities.
• Promote a culture of safety, compassion, professionalism, and inclusion consistent with our values and commitment to patient and family centred care.
Requirements
• Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
• Valid Standard level First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a WSIB-approved vendorsja
• Vulnerable Sector Check
• Authorized to legally work in Canada
