Our Personal Independence Group in Risk Management is looking for a Manager, Personal Independence, to join our growing team. RM-Personal Independence is responsible for assisting client service and non-client service personnel in both understanding, and implementing global and firm level personal independence policies, as well as legal and regulatory requirements, and in monitoring compliance with these policies.

Our Personal Independence Group helps ensure the firm and its personnel are in compliance with professional, regulatory, and KPMG independence policies. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing a significant aspect of Personal Independence processes, running ad-hoc projects, and liaising with key internal and external stakeholders.

What you will do
  • Acquire and apply specialist-level knowledge of auditor independence regulations, including those established by CPA Code of Conduct (CPA Code), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and International Ethics Standards Board of Accountants (IESBA);
  • Interact with our partners and firm professionals to provide Independence policy guidance and to resolve questions regarding the application of professional Independence standards with respect to personal independence matters, including financial relationships, employment relationships, commercial activities, and certain firm related independence matters, such as business relationships;
  • Manage certain personal independence processes, including breach assessment and reporting, personal independence consultations, KICS, broker import, employment relationships assessment, all other engagement team compliance with personal independence matters;
  • Preparing technical alerts, guidance, training materials and other deliverables for distribution across the Firm;
  • Deliver training sessions to the firm personnel;
  • Assess the impact of new professional standards on personal independence and appropriately communicate the impact to the firm;
  • Manage the system of quality management process for personal independence (ensuring timely update of process narratives and attestation of controls);
  • Manage projects on an ad hoc and on-going basis; identify process enhancements and improvements.
  • Coach and mentor a group of analyst and act as performance manager for 2-3 analysts
What you bring to the role
  • Minimum of six years of client service experience in a large professional services firm or similar environment;
  • Experience in the area of firm or personal independence;
  • Prior experience in external audit or accounting;
  • Strong research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply conceptual frameworks to new and unique situations;
  • Experience responding to complex inquiries, performing research, analyzing data, identifying potential risks, making sound decisions based on findings, and documenting results/findings to support conclusions;
  • Ability to apply subject matter specialization to train stakeholders regarding independence policies, processes, and information systems;
  • Managerial experience, including coaching and staff development to supervise and train less experienced personnel;
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required to manage key relationships with partners and staff;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail and ability to generate high quality deliverables;
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines, while maintaining quality of work;
  • A professional accounting or risk qualification.
KPMG BC Region Pay Range Information
The expected base salary range for this position is $69,000 to $110,500 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant's base salary within this range is based on the individual's location, skills & competencies, and unique qualifications. In addition, KPMG offers a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards program.
