Purpose:

Provides timely, value-added and cost-effective business research to Bank staff worldwide enabling Scotiabankers to make informed business decisions in line with the Bank's overall goals and objectives. Contributes to the overall success of Scotiabank Library Services (SLS) ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities:

Responsible for providing timely, high quality and cost-effective ad hoc and ongoing business research for management decision making and planning.

  • Assesses, determines and negotiates the client's research requirements in terms of content, scope, timeframe, cost, and delivery format.
  • Plans the research strategy to select the best sources and databases to answer the research request in the most accurate, reliable, timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Efficiently performs the research to provide accurate, complete and timely information that cost-effectively meets the client's requirements.
  • Trains clients on the use of library resources available via the SLS intranet site, as well as any other information tools or resources that the Library is supporting.

Responsible for the creation and updating of content-rich, curated research tools (i.e LibGuides, Regulatory Update) for Scotiabank staff.

  • Applies expertise in business research, knowledge of search tools and business and market information resources and databases.
  • Contributes value-added content for the SLS intranet site and other information delivery channels that SLS may use in order to disseminate high quality, filtered business information to its client base. As an editor of guides ensures that guides are up to date and contain relevant and reputable content.
  • Creates the monthly Regulatory Update newsletter which is made available on the SLS intranet site and emailed in a timely fashion to Scotiabankers globally.

Provides support on the selection and evaluation of the Library's research collection to ensure that it has in place the best resources available based on content, terms and conditions of use and value.

  • Evaluates and recommends high quality, reliable and cost-effective business information products, services and resources

Contributes to the strategic development of SLS products and services, in particular its research services.

  • Provides feedback in the planning, objective setting and long term strategy of the library and that of the Research team.
  • Actively uses and evaluates new information technologies, tools, or resources that SLS has implemented or is currently investigating.
  • Performs other duties, as required, that furthers the development and quality of SLS services.

Contributes to knowledge sharing and information skills development.

  • Develops and applies personal competencies and skills in information management on an ongoing basis.
  • Actively uses and evaluates new information technologies, tools, or resources that SLS has implemented or is currently investigating.
  • Actively shares knowledge, skills and expertise with other team members.
  • Inputs complete, accurate, and timely records into the library management system's client management module to facilitate knowledge sharing and to track client requests.

Contributes to the positive image, marketing, and promotion of SLS products, services and expertise.

  • Stays abreast of new trends relating to information resources and delivery of products and services.
  • Understands the Bank's strategy, programs and various departments' objectives in order to provide meaningful support.
  • Ensures that SLS' marketing initiatives and materials are in line with the SLS marketing strategy and brand identity.
  • Contributes to the planning, delivery and review of SLS' overall marketing and branding strategy.


Requirements & Qualifications:

• A Master's degree in library and information science or Library Technician diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, plus a minimum of 3 years of working in a bank environment with a major emphasis on the Capital Markets side of the business.
• Thorough knowledge of business information sources and tools in terms of their content, scope, organization, quality, accuracy, availability and cost. With the plethora of information sources available, the incumbent must also be highly motivated to continuously develop his/her knowledge of tools and resources available that best address our regional and international client base.
• Strong research and analytical skills, with a strong working knowledge of business, banking and in particular understanding the complex and highly confidential research requirements of the key business lines that make up Global Banking and Markets: Advisory, Fixed Income, Financial Institutions, Foreign Exchange, Precious Metals and Corporate Banking, and Global Wealth and Insurance, in order to determine the information requirements, assess the research results, synthesize and compile the research into actionable information.
• A strong customer focus is required anticipating client's needs and adding value in meeting and exceeding those information needs.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to deal with a diverse client base.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills are required in order to prioritize and handle the high volume, diverse nature and frequent tight deadlines of requests and services. Because SLS research services are team-based in approach, team focus is also key competency for the incumbent.
• Strong marketing, training, and presentation skills
• Strong computing skills, solid knowledge of library and information management tools, principles, practices and applications.
• Knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be extremely beneficial.
