The Opportunity
Shape the World Around You - As a Package Engineer, you will contribute to designing and delivering mechanical package solutions for mining and industrial projects across Canada. From conceptual studies through detailed engineering, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-performing systems for major EPCM projects.
This position can be located out of any of our Canadian offices with preference for Northern Ontario, BC and Atlantic locations.
At WSP, our Resources subsector plays a vital role within our Energy, Resources & Industry (ERI) sector, delivering end-to-end solutions for clients across Canada. For decades, we've provided expertise ranging from economic studies and detailed engineering to procurement, commissioning, site management, and mine closure. Our commitment is simple: meet the highest standards in the industry-and then exceed them.
Your Impact
- Lead mechanical package engineering for multidisciplinary mining and industrial projects across all phases.
- Apply expert knowledge of ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, ASME VIII Div 1/2, API, and TEMA to deliver safe and compliant mechanical and piping systems.
- Review and develop piping layouts, isometrics, BOMs, and fabrication deliverables for accuracy and constructability.
- Evaluate, select, and specify rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, and blowers, applying lifecycle and performance considerations.
- Oversee mechanical design of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, chutes, bins, hoppers, and conveyor system components.
- Prepare mechanical calculations, including wall thickness, branch reinforcements, and external pressure analyses.
- Develop project standards, piping material specifications, valve specifications, and equipment datasheets.
- Prepare RFQs and lead technical evaluations and comparison reports for bulk materials, valves, and specialty components.
- Resolve complex design and material issues collaboratively with engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
- Develop inspection and testing plans (ITPs), including hydrostatic testing and NDT requirements for tanks and vessels.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- 10-14 years of experience in piping, rotating equipment, and static equipment engineering within industrial or mining environments.
- Strong background in EPCM project delivery across mining, processing, power, or oil and gas sectors.
- Experience with mechanical design of chutes, hoppers, bins, conveyors, and associated structural elements.
- Deep understanding of piping materials, equipment standards, fabrication processes, and construction practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop RFQs, MTOs, technical evaluations, and bid analyses.
- Experience working in LEAN environments with an improvement-focused mindset.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred).
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Canada.
