About the role:
As an individual contributor, the Manager, Metadata Management drives operationalization and sustainability of mature data management practices with a focus on metadata. They champion the advancement of quality metadata development in support of data governance requirements. Working with operational groups and services and data stakeholders across the BMO enterprise, they will drive the deployment and implementation of processes and methodologies supporting a shared understanding of metadata and data maturity at BMO.

The salary range provided reflects BMO Financial group's compensation range for the grade band associated with this position.
Salary placement within the range outlined above is role-based and will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. These ranges were determined by a market-based compensation approach; we used data from trusted third-party compensation sources to set consistent, and competitive ranges. We regularly evaluate compensation, identify any changes in the market and adjust our ranges and existing employee compensation as needed.
Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO's comprehensive total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards. What will you do:
- Enable data practitioners to mature their metadata practices by supporting their adoption of data management capabilities.
- Develop and maintain repeatable practice procedures for successful deployment of data practices around metadata management.
- Advocate for advancement of data management practices
- Partner closely with the Data Governance function to ensure an end-to-end value generating operating model for the Bank
- Typically between 7-10 years of relevant experience in Data Practices and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Deep subject matter expertise in one or more data practice disciplines (metadata, controlled vocabulary, lineage, data quality, classification)
- Ability to build strong relationships across stakeholder groups and collaborate cross-functionally to champion data management best practices.
- Experience working with data governance tools such as Alation, Collibra, or Informatica EDC/IDQ/Axon or similar solutions.
- On-the-ground experience implementing strong, sustainable data management practices.
- Solid understanding of data warehouse concepts, data lakes or data marts and related technology.
- Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning
- Experience managing projects and initiatives at an enterprise level an asset
- Strong service management, delivery orientation, continuous improvement mindset while automating manual processes
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to present complex information in a manner suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.
