A day in the life:
As a trusted leader, you'll be at the forefront of laboratory excellence, ensuring rigorous testing and insightful data analysis that power the future of tailings management.
- Master precision - Conduct and oversee tailings material testing, including characterization, rheology, dewatering, and unconfined compressive strength assessments;
- Empower others - Lead and mentor junior staff, passing on your expertise to develop the next generation of experts;
- Take charge - Partner with the laboratory supervisor to steer daily operations, ensuring projects stay on track and meet the scope of the test programs outlined in various projects;
- Deliver clarity - Review and refine test results, ensuring high standards of accuracy and integrity;
- Lead with excellence - Support quality control programs, including internal and external audits, reinforcing WSP's commitment to precision;
- Collaborate for impact - Work closely with project managers to define the vision and objective of test programs, translating findings into actionable results that shape client outcomes;
- Innovate - Develop forward-thinking test programs, ensuring every experiment propels expertise further;
- Inspire confidence - Contribute to reports and proposals that showcase the power of WSP's technical leadership;
- Optimize efficiency - Track costs, labour, and materials, ensuring seamless execution.
What you'll bring to WSP:
We're looking for trailblazers who bring expertise, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to innovation.
- Deep knowledge - A post-secondary degree in Civil, Chemical, or Metallurgical Engineering / Technology (or related discipline);
- Proven expertise - At least 12 years of hands-on tailings materials testing experience, including rheology, dewatering, and compressive strength assessments;
- Technical mastery - Sound understanding of industry-standard procedures (ASTM, AASHTO, CSA);
- Visionary leadership - A track record of guiding teams and collaborating with project managers to resolve competing priorities with clarity and confidence;
- Agility and precision - Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, seamlessly juggling multiple projects;
- Digital fluency - Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for data interpretation and reporting;
- Global curiosity - While this role is laboratory based, enthusiasm for national and international travel to support field programs is a strong advantage;
- Safety-first mindset - A commitment to workplace safety, with First Aid and WHMIS training considered an asset.
