The Hardware Solution Technician will operate and maintain the Ottawa Cloud Protection & Licensing (CPL) Hardware (HW) Engineering lab. The Hardware Solution Technician will work independently to build prototypes, test and validate complex electronic system components for Hardware Security Modules (HSM). Interacts with a team of technical staff and engineers to support and develop the product.
Key Responsibility
- Manage Ottawa HW Engineering lab including managing inventory, ordering parts, handling domestic and international shipping logistics.
- Organizing necessary equipment tests, certifications and calibrations, supporting equipment and materials purchasing
- Supporting project development by preparing prototypes, implementing modifications and testing.
- Organizing rapid prototyping of electronics and mechanics, keep track of dependable suppliers
- Support internal and external customers in failure analysis and corrective action.
- Pre-submissions testing and application preparation for regulatory certifications (EMC & Safety)
Required Skills and Experience
- Secondary School Diploma
- 7+ years of experience in: Component soldering/rework, circuit testing, cable assembly and fine mechanics.
- High density PCB level assembly and rework
- Knowledge of electronic components, basic feeling for mechanical designs
- Ability to understand electronics design at the level of schematics
- Ability to read mechanical drawings
- ESD protection and ESD sensitive devices handlingprocedure
- Sense for detail and passion to deliver high quality
- Experience with logistics and managing inventory
- Working knowledge of Linux
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years Component soldering/rework, circuit testing, cable assembly and fine mechanics.
- Electronics Engineering Technician Diploma
- or Electrical Engineering Degree
This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, Canadian Controlled Goods Program, the Canadian Industrial Security Program, the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be able to meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and able to obtain a Canadian NATO Secret clearance.
