The TELUS Central Region Access Network Planning team plans and budgets the growth and sustainment of the Access Fibre Network in Ontario, Manitoba & Maritimes region through constant architectural and technological evolutions. This network supports TELUS services for all of customers, both consumer and business, in all areas of Ontario, Manitoba and the Maritimes. As part of the TELUS Central Region team, you will be responsible for the development, initiation, and release of network plans for the most effective solutions in the expansion of access network infrastructure to meet service requirements for business customers. You will also be responsible for the determination of complex network solutions, following TELUS' corporate strategy and network architecture guidelines as produced by Technology Strategy.
You will be largely responsible for providing the capacity, capability and reliability required and expected by our customers. Your role at TELUS will directly impact corporate objectives and strategies within the constraints of budget allocations, regulatory requirements, utilization, and modernization objectives. Be part of a team that is accountable for the timely development, communication and implementation of the Access Fibre Network in support of IP and/or transport network deployment plans, evolution strategies, and various assessments that directly impact the quality and reliability of our network!Here's how
•Developing network and economic plans for access network deployments and requirements to our business customer bases
•Developing tactical plans that align with TELUS' corporate strategy and network architecture guidelines produced by Technology Strategy Team
•Determining capital and associated operating budget requirements based on Access Fibre Network alternatives that are consistent with established technical standards and processes
•Being accountable for the financial management of capital allocated to network plans
•Leading and/or participating in the development and preparation of financial analysis, studies, reports, and associated presentation material
•Acting as a technical consultant for access infrastructure design, access construction personnel and other stakeholders
•Working closely with the other network planning groups, business sales and marketing, capacity management, project management, and service evolution teams to carry out assignments requiring specialized network knowledge and awareness of potential cost, operational and service impacts and tariff implications
•Presenting plans and recommendations to the management team and/or other parties for information and approval as requiredQualifications:You're the missing piece of the puzzle
•An Engineering Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent work experience) is required
•Strong working knowledge of electronic concepts, equipment and configuration associated with the Access Fibre Network
•Strong working knowledge of the telecommunications network as it relates to Access Fibre facilities equipment (including fibre deployment, feeder and distribution architecture)
•Expert knowledge of the documentation and procedures as it relates to the Access Fibre Network planning and provisioning process (eg. Area planning, costing, work plans, etc.)
•Knowledge of financial planning principles and analysis techniques
•Demonstrated ability to produce plans based on sound engineering economic analysis and following guidelines established by network standards
•Minimum 5 years corporate experience working with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Excel Power Pivots, Visio, PowerPoint, Access DB) Great-to-haves
•Experience in various aspects of the Access Network including fiber deployment, feeder and distribution architecture, civil engineering, architectural and system configurations of SONET, CWDM/DWDM equipment, GPON and Interoffice Transport fiber deployment and management
•Solid working knowledge of electronic interworking/interoperability concepts, equipment and configuration associated with the Access, Transport and IP networks
•Experience in preparing plans and evaluating alternate network solutions
•Experience with Access Engineering and Construction processes is desired
•Familiarity with Network Planning and Provisioning tools (SAP, Field View, FOX, SharePoint, Google Earth etc.) is desired
•Licenced professional engineer (P.Eng) designation an asset
