Meaningful work you'll be part of
As a Disputes and Counselling , Legal Counsel Senior Manager , you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Oversee and resolve complex employment-related matters, including employee and partner disputes, terminations, litigation, and compliance consultations, by providing strategic legal support to Human Capital, Risk, and related business functions
• Advise Human Capital teams on legal compliance with laws and regulations, program level advice and on general policy
• Oversee and resolve litigation across Canada by coordinating with external legal counsel and internal stakeholders, ensuring favorable outcomes for PwC and maintaining its strong reputation , including reviewing and commenting on litigation documents
• Provide comprehensive legal advice and risk management guidance across all lines of service, supporting firm members through complex and stressful situations, collaborating with Risk Management Partners and stakeholders to address and resolve issues such as professional negligence, contract disputes, and engagement concerns, negotiating directly with opposing counsel to resolve litigious matters , and offering insight on contractual and dispute-related matters within the firm
• Identify , address, and resolve legal and regulatory issues - including matters related to client proposals, regulatory investigations, restatements, required reporting and disclosures - and support the firm's response to regulatory and accreditation body inquiries or Code of Conduct complaints against professionals
• Implement and maintain legal holds, respond to document requests, advise on legal obligations and risks, and oversee document collection and review processes, including coordination with external counsel
• Mentor, delegate, and coordinate with Managers on the Disputes and Counselling Team to efficiently meet team demands
• Regularly report on litigation and TPM matters to PwC's captive insurer and Global OGC, and provide support and coordination for engagements involving collaboration with other network firms and OGC lawyers.
• Provide secondary support to PwC Canada's only Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Network Standards across all lines of service
• Attend regular continuing professional development sessions to keep up to date on applicable law and maintain professional designation
Experience And Skills You'll Use To Solve
• J.D. Law or equivalent degree and in active good standing with provincial Law Society
• Experience as in-house counsel with demonstrable senior experience in litigation and legal counseling
• Demonstrated expertise in professional liability laws, regulatory compliance, and adherence to firm standards
• Proven commitment to delivering exceptional client service
• Experience collaborating effectively with partners, stakeholders, and other professionals
• Demonstrated strong legal and business acumen, with the ability to make informed decisions in complex environments
• Thorough understanding of professional services firms, including risk management practices, tolerance levels, and a strong ethical mindset with a commitment to service excellence
• Proven ability to support professionals and other high performers with empathy and diplomacy, maintaining composure and providing reassurance during challenging situations
• Excellent communication skills, with the capability to clearly explain complex legal concepts in an accessible manner to ensure advice is properly understood and followed
