Key member of the Private Banking leadership team, collaborating to develop and prioritize business initiatives that support growth opportunities and improve business profitability and productivity. The Director is responsible for development and execution of strategic projects that support Private Banking growth strategies and improvements to profitability, productivity, and overall business management. Initial areas of focus include product and portfolio enhancement and optimization, service package development and pricing strategies, building a dedicated mortgage execution platform, expansion of deposit offerings/pricing and development of a new service-centric offering for lower complexity clients. The Director manages project milestones, resource availability, and ensures successful delivery and effectiveness for all strategic initiatives. The Director represents the Private Banking business head in multifunctional, pan-Wealth business initiatives, including business planning and forecasting as required.

  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Manage multiple project work streams, including leading problem-solving sessions with cross-functional, business line team members, and subject matter experts.
  • Develop and implement change management plans that addresses the change impacts of the business, while minimizing stakeholder resistance and maximizing engagement.
  • Lead business planning initiatives including Profit Plan process, business forecasting and funding approval for business investments.
  • Develop and deliver product profitability and portfolio optimization strategies.
  • The Director will assume strategic leadership for the Centralized Account Teams who are focused on migration of low value clients to Retail branches and ultimately developing a service-centric offering for low complexity/high value Scotia clients. Drive the execution and ongoing management of strategy planning with key business lines to ensure alignment with the overall Wealth strategic plan.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of industry trends, competitor positioning and opportunities related to growth and competitiveness.
  • Other areas of focus include managing vendor selection and delivery of sales management training for Team Leads and people managers and development of digital and traditional marketing initiatives for customized credit strategies.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education / Experience
• Business degree; 10 yrs relevant work experience
• Thorough knowledge of Private Banking services and lending expertise with a good understanding of all Wealth Business Lines
• Proven track record delivering innovative solutions from concept to change management
• The incumbent should be able to work in a fast paced and energized environment, deal with tight deadlines, solve challenging problems and balance conflicting priorities. Able to manage multiple high priority projects concurrently
• Capable to engage and work directly with senior leaders across the business and the Bank - skilled at building trust and strong professional relationships
• Superior interpersonal skills, leadership and influencing capabilities
• Self-motivated; ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Exceptional planning and analytical skills, ability to discern research information / data and focus on the critical business issues
• Exceptional presentation and written communication skills
