Job Description
We are looking for a Corporate Counsel, Privacy Concentration, who will act as dedicated legal counsel providing privacy-related legal advice on public body obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act ("FIPPA").
This is a temporary full-time role to May 2027.

As Corporate Counsel you will:
- Provide legal advice on public body obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act ("FIPPA").
- Review procurement process documents and service provider contracts to develop contract conditions related to data security and public body obligations under FIPPA and Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner guidelines.
- Represent WorkSafeBC before the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner by conducting mediations and hearings.
- Advise on and conduct complex privacy impact assessments and access to information requests.
- Draft information sharing agreements.
- Provide advice on privacy-related legal risks and on emerging privacy issues, such as AI.
- Develop and deliver in-house privacy-related training internally.
- Support the updating and maintenance of the organization's Privacy Management Program.
- Keep up to date with privacy and access to information case law and legal developments.
We're looking for someone:
- Whose clients trust them to provide legal advice that is not only right, but is practical, timely, and includes options for clients to achieve their desired outcome, while ensuring privacy is protected.
- Who constantly strives to grow and develop as a lawyer and takes pride in producing a quality legal product.
- Who can interact with management, peers, and clients in a confident, professional and objective manner.
- Who would consistently model the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.
- A lawyer who is a member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia, with a minimum of three years of recent related experience.
- Strong understanding of privacy law and principles.
- Good communication, negotiation, legal writing and research, and statutory interpretation skills are essential.
- International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP certification) or equivalent would be an asset.
