Job Description

Overview
At KPMG, you'll join a team of diverse and dedicated problem solvers, connected by a common cause: turning insight into opportunity for clients and communities around the world.
The Opportunity
Join our dynamic Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practice, where we help clients tackle their ESG challenges with actionable solutions. Our team focuses on two main streams: ESG advisory and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) accounting, both of which cater to a broad range of clients across various industries in Canada and globally.

This specific role is part of our GHG accounting stream, with a primary focus on regulatory GHG emissions verification, in accordance with ISO 14064-3, to meet provincial and federal GHG emissions reporting regulations in Canada. As a junior resource, you will work alongside experienced professionals and support various engagements related to GHG emissions verification and advisory services, contributing to the development of impactful and accurate sustainability practices.

What you will do
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, execution, and reporting of client engagements related to GHG emissions. Your key responsibilities will include:

Third-Party Verification:
  • Conduct verification of emissions reports prepared in accordance with provincial regulations.
  • Develop risk assessment and test procedures to ensure the accuracy and completeness of reported emissions.
  • Conduct client interviews and site visits to understand and document emissions data, data flow, and controls. Demonstrate strong time management skills by efficiently gathering necessary information and ensuring all details are captured accurately to meet client needs and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare verification reports in compliance with provincial regulations and ISO 14064-3.
Emissions Inventory Development:
  • Support the development of GHG inventories for clients, including collecting necessary data and calculating relevant GHG emissions.
  • Calculate direct and indirect GHG emissions (e.g., from electricity consumption and supply chain) and prepare reports according to the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064-1, or other applicable standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior consultant to gain hands-on experience in the fast-evolving field of GHG emissions, working with clients across a variety of sectors.

What you bring to the role
We are looking for candidates who are passionate about sustainability and eager to make a positive impact in the field of GHG emissions. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
  • Educational Background: A masters or university degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
  • Experience: 0-5 years of work experience, ideally in environmental, sustainability, or technical fields.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to apply both quantitative and qualitative analysis to solve complex technical problems.
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, interviewing, and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and team members.
  • GHG Emissions Experience: Experience in data collection for GHG emissions calculations, as well as familiarity with GHG inventory development and emissions reporting, is an asset.
