Reporting to the Operations Manager, Libraries and Academic Success, the incumbent provides customer service to Library Common's customers at the Barrie Campus. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Customer Service which includes:
    • Providing customer service in the Library Commons including registering customers, discharging and renewing library materials, collecting overdue fines, answering phones and customer inquiries, selling print credits, photocopying / printers and troubleshooting student and faculty issues / questions around library services
    • Providing basic reference services for collection, and Interlibrary Loan Support which includes assistance with library catalogue, web site and electronic systems
  • Reserve Collection which includes:
    • Maintaining online and physical reserve collection
    • Adding, modifying and deleting records in the library system, preparing items for reserve shelves with bar codes and tattle tape and discussing status of reserve items with faculty
  • Collection maintenance which includes:
    • Assisting with the maintenance of the library collections by ensuring materials that require repair are forwarded to Technical Services, shelving, sorting, counting, tattle taping and withdrawing materials as needed
    • Provides clerical support to all program areas regarding collection maintenance
  • Library Orientation which includes:
    • Resourcing for Library Student Assistant inquiries from all campuses regarding library procedures and operations
    • Acting as a backup to the Senior Circulation clerk for the scheduling and training of Library Student Assistants

  • Successfully completed a postsecondary certificate in a relevant field of study
  • One year of experience in a library customer service role providing circulation and basic reference services
  • Experience excepting payments via cash, debit or credit
  • Demonstrated computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and library automation software
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to work with various stakeholders and to promote library services
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work evenings and some weekends
