Our Category Specialists are accountable to meet financial retail sales targets and gross margin for their dedicated category. Responsible for sourcing and creating store assortments most suitable to drive sales growth. This role will work collaboratively with the Category Management and Planning Teams to deliver the right product to right stores and optimize owned inventory.


Inventory Management (40%)

    •Work with stores or FC's and import specialists, vendors to manage inventory levels. Responds to inquiries as needed directly with stakeholders.•Work with Category Manager on Line Reviews.•Select products and plans replenishment schedules and forecasts to reflect advertising initiatives, market trends and peak selling periods such as holidays. •Work with the planograming department to ensure planogram planning and implementation align with category management strategies. Including product mix, samples, timing, shelf placement and adjacencies.•Performs daily ordering of merchandise in their category and ensuring that all vendor-recalled product has a zero balance inventory level at all locations•Analyze and update min/pres levels and pricing data on a regular basis.•Increase the department budgeted gross margin and inventory turnover.•Performs forecasting on all designated SKU's.•Promotions - analyze inventory quantities required to support proposed promo position and evaluate impact on current and future inventory levels to determine if additional purchases are required.•Work with Category Manager on Assortment, build an overall understanding of industry trends and patterns in the products offered and provide insights into new assortment.•Monitor integrity of AS400 data, responsible for SKU set up & Maintenance of pricing.•Review current pricing to ensure in line with pricing strategies as well as competitive price checks.•Coordinate Cross sells and substitutions.•Monitor and maintain data within the Sunrise Inventory/Order Management System.•Executes the daily out of stock (OOS) management program looking for trends and issues in near out of stock, inventory balance by store or FC, and stock balancing.•Evaluate sku ship packs, minimum presentation quantities, stock balancing, and inventory variances at store and make required changes and/or recommendations as required.

Communication (30%)
    •Ensure that stores/FC and other departments receive the information they need with respect to new, changed, or discontinued product•Establish regular and effective communication with stores or FC through visits and provide support to the stores on a frequent basis with regards to special orders, damages, RTV's and general replenishment issues.•Return all store inquiries in a timely manner.

Advertising (15%)
    •Assist with the proofing of all advertised material when required.•Select Assortment for Marketing tab flyers & negotiate with vendor

Vendor Relations (15%)
    •Communicates with vendors regarding inventory availability and forecasting.•Work closely on a day to day basis to build and maintain strong partnerships with our vendors•Work with vendors on new product and packaging development, minimizing environmental impact and shipping costs, as well as considerations for loss prevention and overall customer experience.

    •Office Environment •Periodic overnight travel is required on a national level.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements
    •Introductory business/financial acumen•Comprehensive knowledge of category related product currently available coupled with a high awareness of industry trends and new product directions.•Required to commit sufficient time and to a varying schedule to meet the demands of the position.•Basic negotiating skills•Understanding of marketing strategies.•Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, word, (access recommended)


    •Minimum of 1-3 years of previous retail management, purchasing or merchandising experience.


    •Post secondary diploma with a focus on retail management, merchandising and purchasing or equivalent experience.
