Job Purpose:Thales is looking to add a Business Intelligence Engineer to lead the Thales North America BI Centre of Excellence (CoE) to join their team in Toronto.
The Business Intelligence Engineer is responsible for the support and deployment of BI solutions, particularly using Datalake, datawarehouse, PowerBI technologies. The role will encompass planning, implementation, management and support of Business Intelligence solutions with the key purpose to implement strategic automated reports. While the primary tool is PowerBI, this responsibility would also extend to future applications implemented in support of the Thales business domains. This role, at times, may directly lead projects assigned to their domain. As a shared service organization, our customers are Thales units within the North American region; however, the engagement of business units outside of this region is possible.
Key Job Functions:- Lead the North American BI CoE (Centre of Excellence)
- Work closely with the IT teams to design and deliver reporting and analytical solutions that satisfy business and technical requirements
- Extract, transform and load data from multiple sources (Excel, and ERPs: SAGE, SAP, Primavera...)
- Provide architectural insight to business users through evaluation and recommendation - Oversee the mapping of data sources, data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality
- Managing PowerBI workspaces, report access, report deployment, developing best practices in an enterprise environment
- Take ownership of end-to-end development of each dashboard and report being developed
- Train end-users and other stakeholders as needed to ensure they become fully autonomous and operational on the tool
- Coordinate with IS/IT as needed to ensure compliancy with Thales IT/Security
Key Skill Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with a minimum of 5-8+ years of experience or a Master's degree in Computer Science or related field with 4+ years of experience
- Experience in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining - Strong understanding of database management systems, analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework
- Experience with database design concepts, middleware concepts, user interface development, and information security engineering & access controls
- Knowledge of SQL queries and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Experience with Microsoft Azure Datalake, Azure SQL Database and Azure Analysis Services
- Three plus years of relevant work experience building dashboards and reports in PowerBI
- Experience working on Power Query, DAX and Power BI Services
- Ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams
- Experiences in applying agile work practices
- Experience collaborating with teams both cross-functionally and cross-geography
- Motivated and adaptable, able to work proficiently both independently and in a team environment
- Travel up to 10% both domestic and international may be required
