We are seeking an experienced Business Development Specialist with a passion for Mergers and Acquisition for our Harris Construction business unit. In this role you will be working closely with the Group's Senior Management team in continuing the company's success in Mergers and Acquisition (M&A) activity. Reporting to the Manager of Business Development, this position will play a key role in identifying and qualifying acquisition opportunities. In this role you will be responsible for sourcing new acquisitions, developing relationships with key decision makers and performing deal origination activities related to Construction vertical market software businesses. You will be successful in this role if you are a people-person, have solid business acumen, love to continuously learn, experiment and have a passion for creating and maintaining relationships. Prior business development experience is helpful but not necessary. Financial literacy, solid interpersonal abilities and understanding of software and technology businesses are considered assets.

Primary Functions
  • Support the M&A team in researching and qualifying potential company targets
  • Directly solicit and engage companies' senior management and ownership via telephone for acquisition; cold call, and qualify target companies to ensure they meet our investment profile
  • Maintain relationships with Group's existing network of acquisition targets through frequent telephone calls and e-mails
  • Effectively communicate Harris' investment strategy, while ensuring that the investment process is handled with care and professionalism
  • Track activities and maintain relevant information in Salesforce CRM
  • Arrange telephone and in-person meetings, identify and attend relevant conferences and tradeshows to generate leads and build relationships with prospects
  • Generate and report on leads, set up qualified appointments and move opportunities through the M&A pipeline to our deal team
  • Potential travel required (


Primary Qualifications:
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree (Business/Economics/Finance an asset)
  • Demonstrable experience in Business Development with an aptitude for inside sales, lead generation and mining of new business opportunities
  • At least 5 years of direct experience in inside sales or business development (M&A sourcing is an asset)
  • Exceptional organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with exceptional organization, prioritization and multi-tasking abilities who thrives on new challenges and takes initiative
  • Experience in M&A or software industry is an asset
  • Experience in Construction Vertical is an asset
  • Experience with Salesforce (or another CRM) is an asset
