We are seeking a Backend Platform Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in enterprise Generative AI platforms, including Microsoft Copilot Studio and Google Gemini. This role is responsible for designing, building, and operating scalable, secure, and reusable backend platforms that enable AI-driven capabilities across multiple business functions and use cases.
The ideal candidate acts as a platform owner and technical authority, taking end-to-end responsibility for backend architecture, operational stability, and integration of GenAI services into enterprise systems. This role requires a proactive leader who is comfortable owning decisions, driving technical direction, and leading response during high-impact production events.

What will your typical day look like?

Key Responsibilities:
Platform Architecture & Engineering
Lead the design and implementation of backend APIs, services, and orchestration layers that support multiple Generative AI workloads built on large language models (LLMs).
Architect and evolve enterprise-grade GenAI platforms using Azure Cognitive Services, Azure Search, and cloud-native components, ensuring patterns are reusable and decoupled from specific domains or business processes.
Ensure standardized, secure integration between GenAI platforms and enterprise applications.
Platform Enablement & Automation
Automate the provisioning and configuration of cloud infrastructure, AI services, and machine learning environments, with a strong preference for Azure-based platforms.
Establish standardized onboarding patterns for new GenAI workloads and teams.
Operational Ownership & Reliability
Serve as the first point of contact and platform owner for GenAI platform issues.
Own production stability, incident response, and continuous improvement across performance, reliability, privacy, and security.
Technical Leadership & Delivery
Own platform backlog, estimation, and sprint planning as an onshore technical lead.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess feasibility, guide design, and deliver GenAI capabilities aligned to enterprise standards.
Governance & Engineering Excellence
Apply strong principles around scalability, security, data protection, and observability.

About the team

The Generative AI CoE is an internal team within Deloitte Technology Canada. GenAI CoE focuses on delivering end-to-end solutions that leverage Generative AI technology, including custom-built and commercially available products.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Google Gemini, and Azure Cognitive Services.
• Proven expertise in backend development, API design, and cloud-native integration.
• Strong understanding of distributed system architecture, scalability, security, and monitoring.
• ADO pipeline & Build Release knowledge.
• Azure Keyvault, APIM, OAuth integration work experience
• Experience automating cloud infrastructure and GenAI environments, preferably Azure.
• Demonstrated technical leadership in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
• Comfortable being direct, vocal, and decisive in high-pressure situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience operating enterprise-scale AI or platform teams supporting multiple internal consumers.
• Azure or equivalent cloud certifications.

Total Rewards

The salary range for this position is $69,000 - $114,000, and individuals may be eligible to participate in our bonus program.
