Job Description

TDAM manages over $170 billion in fixed income assets, including over $4.5 billion in global private debt. Private debt portfolio managers are responsible for constructing and managing private debt portfolios that meet clients' investment objectives while respecting investment guidelines. In keeping with TDAM's philosophy of separating portfolio construction and credit research, private debt portfolio managers are supported by a dedicated private debt credit research and origination team whose focus is to originate private debt opportunities, conduct due diligence and seek credit approval.
In order to achieve the desired outcomes for our clients, the role of private debt portfolio manager is collaborative in nature and requires cultivating excellent relationships with various internal teams such as the Private Debt Credit Research and Origination, Relationship Management, Client Portfolio Management, Portfolio Analytics and others.
  • Assist with investment-grade and global private debt funds' portfolio construction and management processes to meet our investment objectives
  • Monitor public markets and determine compensation for liquidity in private markets
  • As a member of the Asset-Liability Management (ALM) team, understand how private credit fits within institutional multi-asset solutions
  • Work with the ALM team, Client Portfolio Managers and Relationship Managers to protect and grow assets under management
  • Create insightful presentations and write articles adding to our "Thought Leadership" knowledge base


  • Ability to multitask in a highly demanding environment is essential
  • Familiarity with loan origination, structuring and syndication processes
  • Awareness of pension and/or insurance asset-liability management framework
  • Successful candidate should demonstrate critical thinking skills and the ability to solve complex problems
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and VBA or other languages
  • Superior written and oral presentation skills
  • Attention to detail is a fundamental requirement
  • Bilingual, French-English, would be an asset

Additional Information
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, engineering, actuarial science or related field
  • 3-5 years relevant experience in private debt origination and structuring, debt capital markets, public credit research, commercial/corporate lending, or asset-liability management
  • CFA designation
