Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. As the Analyst you will assist with the design and execution control processes with input from the GBM business lines (Line 1A) and the second lines of defense (e.g. GBM&T Compliance), thereby contributing to the overall success of the first line of defense in managing operational risks inherent in the businesses.
The Regulatory Business Sustainment (RBS) group within the GBM Internal Control operates as the Bank's center of excellence in the first line of defense for ensuring compliance with G20 regulations including Derivatives regulations in Canada, US, Europe and APAC Derivatives regimes, collectively referred to as the OTC Derivatives Regulations. In addition, the group provides oversight for some of the Volcker rule requirements in the first line of defense.
The Analyst will support the RBS team of regulatory specialists who monitor and report Scotiabank's compliance with OTC Derivatives Reforms such as Dodd Frank, EMIR and similar rules in Canada, and Asia and Volcker. The Analyst is primarily responsible for supporting the effective execution of GBM controls and monitoring and oversight functions.
RBS works closely with the Front Office, as well as Global Wholesale Operations, Compliance, Legal and Technology groups. This position requires organization and coordination skills, curiosity, creative problem solving and the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in business, or related field (eg. Mathematics, Accounting).
- Spanish business communication proficiency is required
- Minimum 0-3 years in the financial industry or similar environment
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work with large quantities of data, research and organize results.
- Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to execute projects.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- A demonstrated ability to collaboratively work in a team environment under tight deadlines.
- Intermediate to Advanced user capabilities in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- This role requires successful completion of the NFA Swaps Proficiency Requirements within 90 days of assuming the role.
The following skills would be an asset:
- Knowledge of key current rules and regulations governing banking institutions, specifically in the Capital Markets business
- Capital market products knowledge
