What is the opportunity?

RBC is a global leader in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various aspects of banking in order to creat value for our clients; from advice center chatbots and intlligent mobile app features in personal banking to AI- powered algorithmic trading agents in capital markets. A failure to effectively prepare for and manage emerging model risk related to AI would subject RBC to unwarranted potential financial, regulatory, and reputational risks.

The Enterprise Model Risk Management (EMRM)- AI model validation team within the RBC Group Risk Management is mandated with quantification and management of the potential model risk arising from deploying AI powered techologies across the bank.Reporting to the Senior Director, AI Model Risk group, the incumbent will be working closely with the senior AI-scientists, engineers and risk managers to further develop the bank's model risk framework for testing and monitoring of intelligent AIgo trading systems. The role will provide a unique opportunity to work closely with the AI scientists and model risk managers in RBC and get exposure to cutting edge techniques employed in electronic trading risk management of AI-Algo systems.

  • What will you do?
  • The role requires you to be innovative and a fast learner capable of thinking outside the box in order to research, prototype and automate wide variety of tests, analytic modules, and a monitoring tool used to assess the performance of trading algorithms.
  • You will research novel machine learning & statistical methodologies across various disciplines (such as control theory, robotics, etc.) and build prototype applications in Algo trading space
  • Establish scalable, efficient, automated tools and processes for large scale data analyses, neural networks, model validation, and model monitoring

  • What do you need to succeed?

  • Progress towards a PhD or M.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Quantitative Finance, Statistics
  • Advanced skills (either via course work or research activity) in mathematical optimization, scientific computing, stochastic control theory, statistical learning
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and scientific rigor in order to deal with ambiguity and open ended questions
  • Proficient programming skills in R and SQL
  • Advanced Python coding skills: hands on experience with machine/deep learning development platforms such as Scikit Learn, SciPy, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Keras, OpenAI Gym etc.
  • Comfortable with command line tools in a Linux or Windows environment e.g. Linux (bash, Powershell, ssh, etc)

  • Familiarity with basics of quantitative finance and algorithmic trading strategies
  • Experience with version control using Git
  • Exposure to the Big Data ecosystem (Spark, Hadoop)
  • Familiarity with basics of quantitative finance
